about

The summer of 1998 was my emo summer. This song encapsulates that. Every disgusting cliche' happened to me, to us. It's a long time ago, but feels super close when I stop and think about it. "Polaroids on the mirror" was a common happening back then - you'd take a Polaroid together when you felt like you were going steady; one for you to take home, one for her to keep.

*Serotonin was a band from the late 90s that played technical emo. They can best be viewed on the brilliant document of that time, "The Actuality of Thought", produced by Bifocal media. Link is here. The Serotonin set kicks in around

lyrics

I hadn't checked on you for a long time

we drove to Pittsburgh
for a Serotonin* show

our journey seemed like you could talk to me

now I'm feeling like I'm seven years old
now I'm feeling like I'm seven years old

we did a 'zine
and polaroids on the mirror

why to live was getting clearer -
OLY -> PDX by letter

now i'm feeling like i'm seven years old
now i'm feeling like i'm seven years old
